Almost Maine

The  much anticipated fall play, ‘Almost, Maine’ is coming out soon. The play is told like a romantic comedy set in Northeast United states during the winter time. It details a series of various love stories through different characters. The cast and director Ms. Denby are all so enthusiastic about showcasing this narrative to the school.

The play is perfect for the season that we are in, and will put us all in the holiday mood. According to Ms. Denby, “it is set in winter in the northern US, so will hopefully also get us all feeling Christmassy as we head into December and the run up to the winter break.”

Jeannie Macrae (12), an actress in the play, gave us some insight into her character. “My character’s name is Rhonda and she is too romantically closed off for her own good! She is this hyper masculine women who is too afraid to embrace any form of romantic affection that she pushes people away. She is a classic bro who could definitely out arm wrestle any guy in town.”

“Chad is a good ol’ country boy who likes the simple life. Most of all, he likes hanging out with his good friend Randy. Every weekend the pair come together and share a few beers as they watch the stars pass by.”

— Jaden Cilliers

Jeannie also talked about the play’s idea of love and the message it is trying to convey, “I believe that the show has a variety of views on love, as there is not just one way of going about it. People find hidden love, fall in love, stay in love, and fall out of love all of the time, but the show never explicitly has a one sided bias. It encourages courage when pursuing, reclaiming, and moving past love. The show provides an outlet of sorts for exploring love and its complexities.”

Jaden Cilliers (9), another actor in the play, also shared some details about his character “Chad is a good ol’ country boy who likes the simple life. Most of all, he likes hanging out with his good friend Randy. Every weekend the pair come together and share a few beers as they watch the stars pass by.”However Jaden’s character’s love life takes a turn, but you will have to watch the play to find out what it is.  Jaden says that the message of the play is to express that “love comes in so many different shapes and sizes. ”

The play has a strong message about love that everyone should see. You can buy tickets at lunch and the play starts on November 16 and goes till the 18. Let us know in the comments if you are going to check out the play!
