The Mandela Effect

The Mandela Effect

The Mandela Effect is a theory that has been trending on the internet for the past few months. It is described as the “belief of parallel universes, based on the idea that large groups of people have similar alternative memories about past events,” according to KnowYourMeme.

screen-shot-2016-11-17-at-3-56-04-pmA multitude of people, many of whom happen to be Reddit users believed to have remembered alternate titles for names and titles for books and movies. A well-known example of this is the series “Sex and the City” which many people have claimed to believe that the actual title of the series had and has always been “Sex in the city”. Another example of the theory can be seen by the common misremembering of the series “The Berenstein bears” which is now known and has now gained popularity as the book always being “The Berenstain bears”.

With so many examples and a large amount of people dedicated to find the answer to these strange occurrences, Panther Nation decided to interview fellow ISB students in order for them to voice their opinion.

In a recent interview conducted with freshman Kyle Vanelli, he stated that he “believes in the phenomenon of the common misremembering of ideas contrary to proven evidence; however, the idea that “parallel universes” are involved does not convince [him] at all.”

With another interview from senior Nihal, his thoughts on the mandela effect as he described is “kind of whack, fam… I think it is kind of a ripple effect. If one person tells you something is right, you are inclined to believe them. This is how misinformation spreads. It makes more sense that everyone is just wrong, than the fact that there is a parallel universe.”

screen-shot-2016-11-17-at-4-02-07-pmAs Lily stated “I am currently confused about the mandela effect..In some instances I can understand why there is a common mis remembrance of a certain event, although, for other occurrences such as the “Mirror mirror on the wall” event is extremely unusual..”

With an extremely informed student we believe Xanthe Schaub has a passionate voice for this topic, as she states “I believe the Mandela effect is true because it is extremely surreal and with the amount of evidence that has been provided towards this topic it has not only left people in shock but has surprised millions around the world.”

After hearing other students opinions, there is no obvious truth of whether or not the mandela effect has factual evidence to prove that it is an ongoing occurrence, but rather that many people all have the common misremembering of the same incident.
