2018+Girls+IASAS+Basketball+Recap

The second season sports here at ISB has now come to an end, and our girls’ basketball team placed fourth during their home IASAS. Although they had not finished in the position that they hoped for, they competed hard playing their best basketball.

This year, the team mentioned that their goal for IASAS was to minimize their turnover and to have sharp execution on their offensive side. Although they did not come out on the top, they did stay competitive throughout the tournament achieving these goals they had set.

During the beginning of the tournament in round robin, our girls were 2-3, putting them in the fourth place position going into the beginning of the tournament play. Because they were the fourth place seed, they played in the second quarterfinal game against the 5 seed ISKL. During this game, the team secured the victory putting them in a position to continue to fight for the gold.

Following the win against ISKL, our ISB girls were placed in the semi-final game against the strong TAS. This game did not end how the home crowd or the girls wanted, and later TAS went on to win the championship game by 6 point against SAS.

Coach Miller mentioned that the team was “led by our senior captains, Mackenzie Smith, Naisha Ghandi, and Gabbie Fong. Their experience and leadership throughout the tournament helped the team stay ready, reflect, prepare for each game…and have a little fun.” This shows that the seniors of the team were committed tonot only helping their team become the best they could be, but to also help create a memorable final IASAS for the team as a whole.

Captain Mackenzie Smith (12), when asked about specific players who had stepped up, said that “I honestly believe each girl on our team had a unique and crucial role in our performance this season.” Because everyone on the team had and understood their role the team looked very natural out on the court playing together.

This year was the last home IASAS that any of the players on the team will be able to play in, and although they did not finish within the top 3 placements, they fought hard and created an IASAS they will always remember.

How do you think our girls did this year? Feel free to leave your answers below in the comments section.
