How Will Our Boys Do?

The season one sports is coming to an end, and IASAS is about to start. Last year the boys’ volleyball team came in an overall 5th in Taipei. This year, the volleyball IASAS will be held in Singapore from October 11-14.

The boys’ volleyball coaches Mr. Stephenson and Mr. Macky say that the team’s strengths are their hustle, commitment, and their will to never give up. On the other hand they feel that the team could improve “on learning the systems of volleyball and recognising certain situations during the game and rally,” commented Mr. Stephenson.

Although the boys got 5th last year, the team feels that a good finish for this year would be getting a medal, whether that be first, second, or third. Team captain Seungwon Paek (12) feels that as long as the team plays “as a whole and does not lose the competitive edge we had last year and continues to work hard, good results will follow.”

Seungwon also says from the viewpoint of the captain that “the younger newer players on the team have been improving at a significant rate” and feels that because of this they will be good competition for the other IASAS schools. Even though the team has improved a lot over the last few weeks he thinks that the team’s communication when playing needs to improve for them to be the best that they can be.

The coaches and players did not have much else to say other than the need to make sure that the out of system sets are “high, inside, off the net,” something that the coaches love to say during practices and games.

The volleyball team seems to be a strong bunch of players that are confident in their ability to win some games. How do you think they will do in Singapore over IASAS? Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments section down below.
