Taste and Tell: Brekkie

Taste and Tell: Brekkie

Hidden on Soi 6,  Brekkie is a restaurant which strives to serve healthier alternatives to many classic breakfast foods. Once you enter this contemporary cafe, the smell of roasted coffee and the sound of milk being foamed floods your senses. You are warmly greeted by the wait staff and are quickly escorted to one of the three floors of the cafe. My first take away from this cafe was the minimalistic decor. The wooden shelves are lined with indoor plants and artistic centre pieces. In addition, the incandescent lights that rim the ceiling and the plush throw pillows amplify the warm atmosphere generated from this cafe.

Once seated we started a with Brekkie Avocado Toast, which is essentially a golden poached egg with smoked salmon on top of perfectly cut pieces of avocado. This combination was placed upon a piece of toasted rye bread and finally,  drizzled with balsamic. This starter was fresh, light and seasoned perfectly resulting in it being one of the most popular items on the  Brekkie menu.

For the main course, I decided to try a Brekkie Reuben Sandwich, which consists of thousand island sour caramelized cabbage (which they make themselves), swiss cheese, rye bread and to top it off American-wood smoked beef. To further add to this delectable sandwich, it is sided with home cut organic baked sweet potato fries. These fries are spiced with himalayan pink salt and smoke paprika which creates an unique and healthier version of one of my favorite snacks. Although I am personally not a fan of caramelized cabbage, it worked in perfect sync with the smoked beef. The sour caramelized cabbage brought more depth to the sandwich. It was overall my favorite item that I had ordered in my time at Brekkie.

Brekkie combination of healthy and tasty food has captured the attention of many customers resulting in it becoming one of Bangkok’s hottests cafes. My only concern is that because of Brekkie popularity, the place becomes rather busy at lunch time. In order to combat this, reserve a seat before hand, or arrive prior to lunch time. Overall, my experience at Brekkie was that of a good one. The only question is when will you be eating here?
