ISB athletics started the 2025/26 school year off with a bang, with all three season 1 ISB girls teams bringing home gold at IASAS (Volleyball, Cross Country, and Soccer). With the recent success of season 1 for ISB, I wanted to get a deeper understanding of some of the athletes’ perspectives on their individual performance and team success, as well as the community’s role in all of the winning.
The ISB girls’ volleyball team ended a 13-year wait for gold with teamwork and strong spirit. “Being a part of the ISB girls winning out makes me feel honored,” said Phu Phu. Kayla described the win as a huge “relief,” knowing they finally finished it off. Despite challenges and early-season drama, the girls stayed positive, united, and focused on their shared goal. They pushed through injuries, position changes, and tough matchups—always celebrating each point like a true family. Their season-long evolution from a divided group into a connected, determined team was the foundation of their historic run.

The girls’ cross country team also delivered a dominant performance, winning the IASAS championship thanks to grit, strategy, and a bond built over countless miles. Ella’s strong finishes—14th in the 5k and 10th in the 3k—were crucial in breaking up runners from TAS and SAS and securing ISB’s final points for the win. “We’re all like sisters,” Ella said, describing the team’s closeness. Reese contributed by placing in the top 5 for ISB and 11th overall, helping seal the gold. Both runners described the same defining moment: standing together after the 3k, celebrating the win while also tearing up because their team would never be exactly the same again. From joking on bus rides to bonding in stairwells, the cross-country team built a connection that made their victory not only possible but deeply meaningful

The girls soccer team also dominated the IASAS competition this past season. With a historic IASAS win, ending the long title drought. “Beating SAS in the final felt surreal,” said Imaan. Reflecting on the team’s first championship since 2012, MVP of the tournament Maggie added, “Every player worked together. Our communication, effort, and trust in one another made all the difference.” Their unity, resilience, and shared determination both on and off the field created a season full of unforgettable moments, lifelong friendships, and a legacy that will inspire future ISB athletes.

Overall, all of our own amazing season 1 athletes performed amazingly in the first round of 2025 IASAS tournaments. However, the season 1 girls made ISB history, IASAS history, and made the ISB community proud this year.
