Early in the morning on September 12th, both the boys’ and girls’ Varsity soccer teams traveled to Jakarta willing to gain more experience playing as a team, whilst gaining impressions about the strengths and weaknesses of our IASAS opponents.

The boy’s team did exceptionally well, starting the IASAS exchange on Friday with a strong 1-0 win against their Singapore American School rivals; this was a close game in which the result could have gone either way, but due to a wonderful 25 yard curling strike from Mingyu Shin(12), our ISB boys came out on top.

As the boys continued throughout the tournament, they were able to beat International School Kuala Lumpur with another 1-0 win, with Hayuma Iwata(10) scoring the winning goal.

Finally, they faced the boys’ Varsity soccer team from Jakarta International School with an incredibly tight game, and a whole lot of goals; by the time the final whistle blew, the score was 3-4, in favor of JIS. Fantastic goals were scored by Shafim Alam(10), Mingyu Shin(12), and Hayuma Iwata(10).

The girls’ team also faced the same schools, and got many learning experiences out of this exchange, as the team is fairly new.

The girls started off the tournament on Friday with a skillful lobbed goal scored by Grace Redding (11) against ISKL in the first few minutes of the game. Unfortunately ISKL rose up to the occasion and scored 3 successive goals making the score 3-1 to ISKL.

Nevertheless, the panther girls started off their Saturday strong with a 2-0 win, with both goals scored by Margo Pottebaum (9) against JIS in the midst of burning heat on an artificial turf.

With their last game against SAS, the girls’ team was not able to score any goals, but tried their best to create opportunities; the final score was 4-0 in favor of SAS.

This exchange was a great preparation for the upcoming IASAS tournament next month on October 15th. Along with IASAS tournaments, teams will be playing and getting more 11 v. 11 experiences this Friday and Saturday at the friendship tournament hosted by ISB.

I thought that the article covers the tournament well and gives detailed insight into some of the games, however I felt that some of writing could have been more fluid.
