You’re seriously a Gemini? That’s disgusting. Zodiac signs always have a way of finding their way into a conversation. Oh silly me, it’s just the Saggitarius in me. Letting a bunch of star signs make your life decisions or excuse your actions may sound confusing to some people but there are people who use stars as a way to guide them. As much as it is fun researching zodiac signs, there is a lot of controversy on whether it’s crazy or not to believe in that sort of thing. There are obviously things anyone can relate to for each and every sign but does being a Scorpio really mean anything? Zodiac signs can give a person something to look forward to or something to relate to, People look to their signs to reflect their personalities and to put an explanation of their actions.

Zodiac signs can help people discover their strengths and weaknesses, compatibility with another person in a friendship or relationship, and explanation of why we act and react the way we do. Some people could go as far as letting their signs excuse their bad actions or end a relationship just because their signs aren’t compatible if they really believe in it. Do zodiac signs negatively affect people who look into them?

So, what really is a zodiac sign? According to Astrology Zodiac Signs, “each sign has its own strengths and weaknesses, its own specific traits, desires and attitude towards life and people. By analyzing the projection of the position of planets, and the Sun and the Moon on the Ecliptic at the moment of birth.” All zodiac signs tend to have stereotypes, which is why firm believers in this normally judge someone based on if their signs are compatible or not. Every zodiac has at least one best friend and enemy sign.

There are 12 zodiac signs: your sign is determined by the day you are born. The 12 zodiac signs in order are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. My birthday falls on Virgo. Personally, I’ve had experiences where I have related to my zodiac sign, but there have also been instances where it didn’t feel like it was true to who I was. By knowing this I can find my element, quality, and ruling planet along with my qualities as a Virgo. I wanted to find out if other people had had the same experiences as me so I interviewed 3 people who had different views on the topic.

When interviewing Allyn C. (11th grade), she mentions, “I don’t believe in zodiac signs, they’re just fun to look into. I find it hard to believe that my birth month changes my entire personality”. Astrology is an interesting topic for some people, especially researching deeper into your sun, moon, and rising sign along with the element your zodiac sign connects to.

Even simply reading your zodiac sign off of an Instagram page that posts most to least likely for the signs can be fun to read. She also believes that you shouldn’t blame zodiac signs on your bad actions responding with, “No, because they were still your actions. There are no excuses for that.” When asked if she believes if zodiacs have a negative or positive effect on a person’s mindset, she states, “it’s indifferent, as I just find them fun and careless.” Depending on how far you are willing to believe zodiac signs they could probably have an effect on the way you think.

I also interviewed Firuza W. who has a similar perspective but still has a few different opinions. She believes that “zodiac signs affect you to some extent, however, I also believe that everybody is in charge of their own fate”. When I asked her if zodiac signs affect people in a positive or negative way she replied with, “It could provide hold and it just provides a sense of togetherness. Advice I would give someone who has just started looking into astrology is to take everything with a grain of salt.”

Zodiac signs are a good conversation topic and overall fun to research: it’s good to see people taking an interest in something and wanting to find something to believe in. Taking it too far and letting it dictate your actions and relationships can have a negative impact if you think too deeply and seriously into the topic. It could also be useful for people who have a hard time finding and knowing themselves because it can be a challenge to find your own strengths and weaknesses sometimes but being able to search up your zodiac you can try to relate to something. Researching zodiac signs should be a fun thing that you choose to do because you enjoy reading about it and finding out more about yourself.
