The Game of Thrones Penultimate

Game of thrones is one of the most universally known shows in the world, having a budget of over 10 million dollars per episode and the epic finale of season seven totalling over 16.5 million legitimate viewers on the night of it’s release. The plot shows all the big players of the game converging on Westeros and eventually,

Towards the fifth episode of the seventh season you can tell it begins to speed up as Ser Davos returns to King’s Landing to pick up Gendry for a mission north, the reason also seems kind of depthless and because they needed so badly to show Cersei a wight, they lost Thoros of Myr, two random Wildlings, Benjen Stark and a whole dragon.

I asked people around ISB  questions about what they thought of Game of Thrones so far and the penultimate season, here are their answers:

Isabella Abate(10) said she had been watching Game of Thrones for a while, but she stopped watching after season four, only coming back to watch the last few episodes of season seven. She thinks that the season was a good watch, but thinks season four was better than the most recent season. Her favourite scene in season seven was the Night King’s battle with the dragons in the sixth episode of the season, in it Daenerys barely manages to make it out, and Drogon is only just able to dodge the spear.

Mr. Duffy is also a frequent watcher of Game of Thrones and a long time fan who started to watch the show during the first season. He also read the books after the end of season one, and currently believes that the books are better than the show, as he feels like it is more fleshed out. But, he does enjoy the show and thinks that it is “Well produced and has brought a lot more attention to the series as a whole.” He has enjoyed season seven so far, but his main concern is the speed of which it is happening, especially the rate at which people travel around Westeros. His favourite character, and in my opinion one of the best characters on the show, is Bronn, the upjumped sellsword, who has some “great lines.”

Ben Jit (10) has been watching for a month and thinks that the season as a whole did not feel too rushed. And even though it was only seven episodes, it had a good mix of action and dialogue. He also thinks the best scene in the season is the fight where the gang is cornered on the island fighting off the wights. His favourite character is Oberyn Martell, who he said “Enjoyed his family and thrills, but it was a shame he had to die.”

I think that the Game of Thrones penultimate season and finale was a good follow up to season 6, and possibly an even better prelude to the last season of the show. I don’t think it beats the epic redemption of the Starks in the last season, or Cersei’s experimentation with wildfire. But, I think it definitely lives up to the standards of the show. What are your opinions on this last season?
