Rehearsals are in full swing for this year’s High School musical, ironically not High School Musical and instead the hugely crowd pleasing Hairspray.
Hairspray follows the story of Tracy Turnblad, a high school teenager who auditions to be on “The Corny Collins” show, a local TV dance show. Set in 1962 the segregation of African Americans and Caucasians in still very much in effect. Despite this Tracy befriends an African American dancer named Seaweed. Throughout the play Tracy and her friends fight for integration on “The Corny Collins Show”.
ISB’s production of Hairspray has cast Abigail Spira as Tracy Turnblad and Dan Borenstein as Link Larkin. With a hugely talented cast including new blood and familiar faces on the ISB High School’s stage filling Hairspray with ISB’s unique charm.
One of these new members is the latest teacher to sit in the ISB director chair Mr. Assimmakopoulos, or Mr. A for short.
