Each issue, the News team highlights a very valuable club in the ISB community, and this time, we are highlighting the InterACT club, and Carol gave me some insight of what they are doing for the children of Thailand.
What is your club about?
We are called the InterACT club. We are a direct service club, and every Sunday, from 1-4, we teach English to the thai kids who live around the outside area of Nichada. We teach kids from the ages of 4 all the way to 18. Each Sunday, we have an attendance of about 70 kids. These kids are often the children of the janitors and workers at ISB. We are also on the verge of premiering a library that we’ve built nearby where we teach, so that the kids have access to English materials anytime they desire. Our main event as a club at ISB is our bi-annual Sports Day, which we hold once every semester. Essentially, on a chosen Sunday, we bring the kids to ISB and from 1-4 we play sports, make craft, and talk with them.
What is the the goal for your club?
Our main goal is to interact with the thai community around us.
What is one thing you would say to encourage people to join your club?
If you’re passionate about community service and directly interacting with children who yearn to learn, then I would highly encourage you to partake in the InterACT club. You get to see the kids grow and their English progress. I’ve been teaching these kids for 2 years now, and I’ve seem them mature, grow older, become invested in their passions, and it’s really great to be a part of their journey and see what path they pursue.
ISB may offer a lot of community service clubs, but this one is bound to make memories. Depending on how long you stay, you’ll get to see young children and develop who they are, and that is very special.
