Healthy Snack Options Everyone Should Try

February 22, 2019

Everyone has a health kick once in a while when they think they might want to clean up their diet or start exercising more, especially after the New Year. However, even with this goal, it can be so tempting to just grab a bag of chips or a cookie instead of spending the time to make a healthy snack or take the time to look at the macros. As an avid snacker myself, I know it can be difficult to find healthy snacks sometimes, so here are a few healthy snacks that are simple to make and easy to find.

Energy Balls are a great snack for when you’re on the go and they’re incredibly simple to make. The recipes vary and there are many different flavors and combinations. Not only that, but one batch can last a few days or even a couple weeks. They are filled with healthy fats, fiber, and protein. Here are two easy no-bake energy ball recipes that are my personal favorites.

  • Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip
    • 1 cup of rolled oats
    • ½ cup of dark chocolate chips
    • ½ cup of ground flax seeds
    • ¼ cup of honey
    • ½ cup of any nut butter (organic almond butter works great for this recipe)
    • 1 tbsp of vanilla extract
    • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • Banana Oat
    • 2 ripe bananas
    • 2 cups of rolled oats
    • 1 teaspoon ground flax seeds
    • ⅓ cup organic nut butter
    • 2 tablespoons honey
    • 3 tablespoons dark chocolate chips
    • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

All you have to do is combine all of the ingredients in a bowl and roll them into small balls and refrigerate them for up to two or three weeks.

Fruit is an amazing source of natural sugars and they are very tasty. It can be enjoyed in many different ways, for example as dehydrated fruit, freeze dried, fresh, or even frozen fruit in smoothies. An amazing brand for dehydrated fruit is “Greenday.” Some of their best products are:

  • Crispy strawberries
  • Crispy apples
  • Crispy grapes
  • Banana chips

Smoothies are a great healthy snack because they’re quick, simple, adjustable, and easy for on-the-go situations. Since you’re able to make your own smoothie, you can choose the exact fruits and fresh ingredients you want in your smoothie. A protein powder or even a portion of greens are great to add to smoothies for extra kick of health. Here are a few great and flexible “recipes” for some healthy and well-balanced smoothies.

  • Mango Passion Fruit
    • 1 mango
    • 2 Passion fruits
    • ¾ cup of water
    • ½ cup of ice
    • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • Mixed Berry Blast
    • 1 cup of frozen mixed berries
    • ¾ cup of water
    • 1 ripe banana
    • ⅓ cup fresh strawberries

Nuts contain great fats and they are a nice savory snack for when you’re tired of fruit and granola bars. There are so many different kinds of nuts and flavors, ranging from normal roasted salted peanuts, to chili lemon pistachios. The options seem unlimited. Here are some unique options that are great for snacking.

  • Honey roasted peanuts
  • Cajun roasted peanuts
  • Rosemary Garlic almonds

Not only are plain nuts a great snack, but nut butters can be used to enhance other healthy snacks such as fruit. For example organic peanut butter on an apple or a piece of toast with almond butter, banana slices, and some honey. Even with vegetables like celery!

Obviously, vegetables are an amazing healthy alternative to anything you may be craving, especially crunchy snacks. There are so many good options that can fill you up and fuel your body with the energy it needs. Here are some small veggies that are great on their own or with some dipping sauce.

  • Celery
  • Baby Carrots
  • Broccoli
  • Bell Peppers

The brand “Sunridge Farms” has lots of great and delicious snacks. This brand has proven to be my favorite healthy yet delectable snack brand with multiple different choices and flavors. Some of my favorites would be:

  • Yogurt Covered Raisins
  • Dark Chocolate covered Raisins
  • Yogurt covered almonds
  • Women’s / men’s vitality mix

A healthy diet is extremely important to be able to fuel your body the proper way. Especially for snackers such as myself, it is so hard to fight the temptation of eating the right foods. Hopefully, by my sharing of my favorite snacks, you can have some ideas if you are lacking. Let us know in the comments below what your favorite healthy snack alternatives are!
