Fourth to First?
With one of the most popular sports season ending and IASAS within reach, the boys basketball team is working hard to play their absolute best on our home court. The Varsity Boys Basketball coaches were asked about what they think of the season so far.
Coach Quinet praised the team’s spirit. “At the start of the year, we were a collection of individuals. Now, we are a team. We move the ball. We cheer for each other. We take charges! And to play our best when the stakes are highest (IASAS), we need to play in harmony, defend as a unit, persevere through adversity, and execute our game with confidence and composure.”
The progress made this year has been extensive. In the beginning of the season, the team was playing as individuals, not as a unit. Throughout the months, the team practiced hard with lots of sprints and drills to improve the overall fitness of the team. During the winter break, that fitness seemed to disappear. This was not a surprise for the coaches and they had lots of running planned to get the players back in shape. Mr. Quinet said, “if we regain our fitness, find our rhythm, and remain relatively healthy, we will be a tough opponent for everyone at IASAS.”
With only a couple of practices left until the big tournament, coaches have to really condense all the work they want to get done. Coach Quinet said, “our focus has been defense, rebounding, and creating high percentage shots, and we will look to continue to improve in these areas. However, one area that is key to our improvement is on-court communication between players.” Lucas Wilson (10) described that “the team overall is alright, but there is some timing that we need to get down to be good for IASAS.”
With all the progress that the team has made, and the things that will be learned, this year’s Varsity Boys Basketball team is shaping up to be a top contender during IASAS! What do you think about this year’s team? Leave us a comment. GO PANTHERS!
