ISB Boys vs Leicester City

Now that we are back into the rhythm of school, our varsity sports have started back up, and this year we had an exciting event regarding the varsity boys soccer team.

On Friday, September 1st the Varsity Boys team played the English Premier League Leicester city academy. They are a Premier League’s team academy which builds up talented young athletes to be reserves, and possibly even turn into professional soccer players. This was a fun game and a great experience for all of the varsity boys players and coaches at ISB.

The captain of this year’s varsity team is Yuto Mizusaka (12). He feels that the experience of being able to play Leicester City was “a great opportunity to play against one of the top teams in Thailand. We played well considering that it was our second game of the season. The score shows that, but we should have won. I am sure we can be better than this by IASAS.

From another perspective, as a new varsity player, Kyle Vanelli says he felt the game “was quite a great experience since we got to play a team that matched our level and it was a tough challenge for our whole team. it was a great opportunity for us to learn from the mistakes we made during the game.

Overall, the game was a hard fought match by both teams that ended in a scoreless draw. The game ended after regulation with no overtime or shootouts.

ISB is a new team, that has been practicing together for a few weeks with little game experience for those who were not on the team last year. This shows that as the ISB team grows stronger throughout the season and increases their team chemistry and experience, they could be an IASAS power house yet again. Coach David Speirs is cautiously optimistic as the Panther men prepare for IASAS.  “We’ve got a good team here, maybe one of the best I’ve ever coached.  They have the potential to do well at IASAS if they play their game.”

Is this years ISB soccer team a future IASAS gold team in the making? You will just have to wait and see during the IASAS tournament in October.

Let us know how you think the soccer team will do at IASAS. Feel free to leave your prediction below.
