A night dedicated to recognize and appreciate the excellence of television industry, otherwise known as the Primetime Emmy Awards. Here is a recap of the finest moments at the 68th Emmys: where talented stars walk down the red carpet in their glamorous outfits, Game of Thrones breaks the record of winning the most number of Emmy Awards for a fictional television series, and host Jimmy Kimmel delivers a hilarious opening monologue:
We simply cannot resist the stunning gowns on the Emmys red carpet Sunday night when stars and their stylists brought their A-game on the runway. Some of the best dressed stars on the red carpet were Claire Dane, Kristen Bell, Priyanka Chopra, Emilia Clarke, and Abigail Spencer. Claire Dane arrived in a gold Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown, along with her golden hair, looking like an Emmy herself. Kristen Bell’s Zuhair Murad gown had a plunging neckline and vibrant embroidered flower designs, looking as if she just stepped out of a fairytale. In a flowy red Jason Wu one-shouldered gown and Brian Atwood heels, Priyanka Chopra looked stunning as she walked down the carpet with her matching bold red lips.
Game of Throne’s Emilia Clarke arrived in a nude strapless Atelier Versace dress along with dainty diamond jewelry which complemented her gown. Abigail Spencer’s wore a Jenny Packham ruffled navy blue gown and Kurt Geiger heels. The silver sequins along her dress glistened on the red carpet. The stars and their stylists definitely did not leave us disappointed with their breathtaking gowns on Sunday night.
The moment that brought most attention was HBO’s fantasy drama winning big in three categories at the Emmys ceremony. Game of Throne’s 38 Emmy awards overtook Frasier’s 37 awards record. Cast members Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey, Kit Harington, Maisie Williams, Diana Rigg and Max von Sydow were honored with Emmy nominations for their rendition in the television series. Everyone could see just how pleased and proud the cast members were of one another. This is Game of Throne’s second year in a row receiving the award for best drama series, and hopefully more are to come in the coming years.
Unlike many live television hosts who are taken over by awkwardness, comedian and host Jimmy Kimmel opened the Emmys Award night with a monologue that everyone will remember. Straight off the bat, Kimmel opened the ceremony by saying
through the middle of the show, Kimmel introduced a live video of his mom making 7,000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. He then asked the children from television series Stranger Things to hand out bags of sandwiches to everyone in the audience. One cannot help but remember when Ellen Degeneres handed out pizza to the audience during the 88th Academy Awards. Some celebrities were really eager to get their hands on those sandwiches.
There were many comedic moments of Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue, especially when he talked about how they are doing things differently this year called the Maggie Smith rule where celebrities must be present to win. If they are not here to accept the award, it goes to the next nominee on the list. He calls out Maggie Smith who has been nominated for an Emmy 9 times and won 3 times but never showed up to the show before: “This year, she had a Sunday ceramics class she couldn’t get out of,” Kimmel joked.
The 2016 Emmys Awards will be reminisced about for many years to come because of the stars’ outstanding speeches and performance in the television industry. The 68th Emmys really honored the diversity of every culture.
