Game recap – Varsity Boys & Girls Football
Sept. 1, 2016
On this Thursday, 1 September, the varsity girls and boys football teams were both playing against ICS. Game conditions were very strange while both teams were warming-up; a mixed weather which varied between big downpours and a stifling heat. As more time passed the atmosphere became tense because ICS teams were delayed in arrival. The two upcoming matches felt ominous at best.
Nevertheless it seems that players were very focused on their match because the girls won 10-3 and the boys 4-1.
The girls, organized in a 2-3-1 on a half pitch, played very offensive football in the first third of the game yet had some troubles in defense with three goals conceded. But in football you just have to get one more goal to win, and this first period finished with a 4-3 score in favors of the Panthers.
During the break, the coach certainly had the right words because his players scored six goals without conceding any until the end of the game.
What a good start to the season it was. The girls just “played the game the way it should be played,” said Coach Kirk after this impressive win. However in sport, you always have to consider mistakes and faults to improve your game. Domi, author of one goal, added that the team has to ameliorate communication and try to relax when in possession of the ball.
The boys match was more physical. The Panthers made the difference in the first period when Michael, offensive midfielder, opened the score with a beautiful free kick to the top corner. Minutes later, striker Makito dribbled around the keeper to slot home another goal.
The most difficult had been achieved in taking a 2-0 lead. In the second period, ISB added a third goal off captain Yuto’s foot. That ended ICS’ hopes despite a slight reduction in the score gap after a generously given penalty.
This victory was well controlled: “we are playing very well as a team,” said Coach Tahan. The fans and friends would agree. We saw a very homogeneous team without “stars,” which makes this team very dangerous for its upcoming opponents.
The football season started in a beautiful way at ISB, providing much encouragement for the future. Next stage for the boys: in just one week, the ISB Panthers go up against Sriboonyanon. The girls face Bangkok Sports School this coming Thursday, an unusually early test for our Panthers! We wish them the best.
