It’s been a good while since winter break ended and as everyone settles has already settled into the new semester and year, GCW could not come sooner. While some are going on their very first GCW at ISB, for others, it will be their last. A week of bonding, stress relief, and seeing and doing amazing things, this February break is one of our favorites. As GCW rapidly approaches, here are some tips to help you get the most out of your week off!
- Keep an open mind. For many of us, GCW experiences can change our perspective vastly, and even be life-changing.
- Pack efficiently. Check with packing lists, bring extras of important items, and make sure to dress for the climate. Keep in mind any weight or baggage size constraints. No blowdryers.
- Bring a neck-pillow for long plane or bus rides. There’s nothing worse than getting little sleep because of a sore neck or aching back throughout the ride and when you reach your destination.
- Chances are, you probably signed up for this trip with a couple of your best friends. However, GCW is a time for bonding and meeting new people, so don’t be afraid to talk to someone from another grade or someone you normally wouldn’t approach.
- Don’t experience your trip through an iPhone or DSLR. While it’s important to take lots of pictures and capture all the places and people you visit, make sure that you give yourself time to take it in with your own eyes and ears!
- Ensure that you dress appropriately for the region you’re visiting. Your chaperone teachers will probably give you instructions for this, but be mindful yourself.
- There is no doubt you’ll have your phone or iPod on you at all times to keep yourself entertained, but books can also be a great way to keep boredom at bay. So grab a good read, because GCW is a great time to catch up on reading, especially for seniors!
- While it may be tempting, try not to stay up all night in your hotel room. You will definitely need your energy for next day’s activities.
- For freshmen going on local trips, just remember that it’s only a bit more time until you will get more choice your sophomore year onwards. Hang in there!
- Relax and have fun! No matter what trip you’re on, just remember that it’s a week off from assignments and deadlines, so make the most of it!
