Breaking news! A new author has been able to create yet another fabulous dystopian trilogy for the young adult audience. Marie Lu has successfully done this by writing the series of Legend, Prodigy and Champion.
If you have not gotten your hands onto any of these books yet, please, do not pass up the great opportunity to read the intriguing storyline this trilogy offers.
When reading this series, prepare to emerge into a futuristic Western United States, influenced by a system where a test taken at the age of 10 called “The Trial” determines your success in the future.
The main protagonists are Day and June, two completely different characters in this dystopian society. Fifteen year-old June is the first human ever to obtain a perfect score of 1500 on her trial; she is viewed as “The Republics” prodigy. However, Day is also a fifteen year-old boy who lives in the poor sectors of the Republic. After escaping his death when failing his Trial, Day becomes the most wanted criminal in the Republic.
Things really start to unfold as Metias, June’s brother, was assassinated by Day. From then on, June becomes determined to capture Day and let him be punished for his numerous crimes.
What readers later find out is that Day’s intentions may not be so malicious; this is a great story, and goes beyond this blurb.
I haven’t even mentioned the greatest part yet, though! Marie Lu, the author of these books, is coming to ISB next semester on March 17th to March 20th.
Mischele Jamgochian, the ISB’s High School librarian, mentioned that “Marie is a gifted writer and her books have been widely popular with ISB students,” concluding “this is the perfect time for Marie to visit ISB!”
Marie Lu, the writer of the Legend trilogy and The Young Elites, was born in Beijing, China. At age 15 she moved to Georgia in the United States, where she later moved again to study at University of Southern California.
Since then, Marie Lu has interned at Disney Interactive studios, and even was a art designer for video games before becoming a full time (and incredible) writer.
“Reading (Marie’s) work in advance builds excitement for the visit and offers insight into the worlds she has created,” added Mr.Jamgochian; reading her books should be unquestionable.
So hurry up, get a copy, and get reading because when meeting an author, having read the books most definitely adds to the awesome experience.
