The Club fair is like a jungle, you explore and encounter some things you want to know more about. Clubs are also a great way to express yourself and experiment to find your passions. Everybody has their own passion and interests… this is how clubs are born! Clubs are beneficial in different ways based on the clubs’ goals and desires. Rooms are filled on the first weeks after club meetings have started, but as more weeks go by, students scatter into clubs that they are more interested in participating in.

This club is a speech club; it helps students gain confidence and also helps with writing and speaking skills. Students engage in 4 different speaking traditions.

Original Oratory: students write and perform their own speeches.

Extemporaneous: students give extemporaneous speeches of the questions which deal with Global Issues.

Impromptu: students have one minute to come up with a speech based on a single word or lightly philosophical saying like “Fight the good fight!”

Oral Interpretation: students select a piece of literature and use voice, tone and facial expression to tell the story.

The IASAS forensics team will be practicing and preparing for the Cultural Convention. This year, ISB will be the host for this upcoming event, and 3 students will be chosen to represent ISB for each discipline. IASAS Cultural Convention will be held from March 2-4, 2017. As the event nears, the captains of the forensics team , Janita Luanpolcharoenchai (11), and Colin Vanelli (11), will be training hard with the team and striving to bring back gold this year.

Though this club is preparing the IASAS Forensics team for the upcoming Cultural Convention, the class is open for everyone. Forensics society allows you to explore thr subject of persuasive speaking without the stress. It’s all about having fun and expressing your devotion to this topic altogether. “We believe in the power of the WORD to alter your mind, move your soul… change the WORLD!  There is a great amount of enthusiasm and passion in the class as the students explore the different speaking disciplines we have” says club sponsor and IB English Teacher Mr. Conor Duffy. The amount of enthusiasm in this class is over the top and students are highly encouraged to have fun.

Traditionally, the IASAS team has not had the greates success at Cultural Convention. Mr.Duffy feels that this may have been because of the recent schedule at ISB when the team had to scramble to find times to meet and practice. The limited amount of meeting time for the clubs may have affected the strength of the team, and the amount of practice the team was getting was not enough to prepare them for the event. “I feel this is changing with the new schedule as Panther Block has given us a chance to really build a team,” states Mr.Duffy. This year we have panther blocks which allow clubs to consistently meet at more convenient times. Now the Forensics Team will be able to achieve their desired skills; Panther Block is very beneficial to this club because of the amount of time they will now have to better prepare for events.

The Forensics Society is a new club, and the club officers want to advertise it more and spread the word. Janita hopes to help the ISB community get a better understanding of what the club itself is about, their main focuses and how the club relates to important skills. “One of our goals is to garner interest both from people who want to be part of CC, or just want to get better at speaking,” she claims. You should definitely consider joining this club even if you are not completely passionate about this topic, as it will help you develop skills that will be needed in the future. If you enjoy challenging and fun ways to develop your public speaking skills, the Forensics Club is the club for you
