The ISB dance team has yet again been off to another wonderful and fun dance exchange experience at JIS on 18-19 September. The dance team learned many different types of choreographies and got to meet and work with new people. The dancers learned different types of dance routines from all over the world. “ There were many workshops and classes taught in exchange. There was Capoeira, Bharatnatyam, K-Pop, Indonesian/Contemporary, Fosse, West African, and Ballet.” describes Jasmine Karaul (9). The dancers had choreographers from all over the world and it was a great learning experience. Ocea Michelin (11) mentions that her “Favorite part was the K-Pop, because [she] really enjoyed the high energy choreography.”

Ms. Jaleea Price one of the many amazing dance teachers here at ISB, traveled to JIS with her team says her favorite was the shoe hunt game “The very first ‘mixer’ activity Saturday morning; after welcoming hugs and smiles, the dancers did a fun, quirky “Shoe-Hunt” game to meet new people. It was a great vibe to start the long day with – just a simple community-building game.” (Ms. Price).

There were some minor injuries during exchange, but despite the injuries the team remained strong. Ms Price describes the team as hard-working, passionate and fun-spirited. A creative project that Ms Price enjoyed was “ Highlight was a collaborative choreography project based on ‘Site-Specific’ work. This is where you create a unique dance working with the environment using the structural or natural design elements in that space. It was a GREAT creative project!”

Strength and stamina were 2 things the dance team worked on at exchange. “We learned that stamina is a huge part in dance, because we rarely get to experience a 10 hour dance workshop. This was one of our strengths, as all of our ISB dancers were able to get through the whole day with great concentration and energy.” comments Ocea (11).

The main highlight of this exchange was meeting new friends and getting together with old ones.

“Dance exchange this year was definitely a very memorable experience. It was a fun filled experience because I got to spend it doing the thing I love with all of my friends that I haven’t seen in a long time. The site-specific choreography was fun because I was able to meet new people and work with them to create a short fun piece.” said Ink Duangsri (12)

All the ISB dancers are excited to work hard and improve throughout the rest of the season towards IASAS.
