Long Talk: Mrs. Shaffer

June 12, 2020

As we near the end of the (virtual) school year, there are some goodbyes in order. As part of an ongoing series, PantherNation sits down with departing staff to get their thoughts on their time on ISB, and where they are going next. Mrs Shaffer has been at ISB for 4 years and is currently a science teacher and the Grade Level Leader for Grade 10.

What is the next destination in your life?

I will be moving to Brazil!

Why did you decide to go there?

Because part of the joy of international teaching is to explore new places and get to know new people and cultures. After 4 years in Thailand, it’s time for the next adventure!

Looking back on your time at ISB, what memories and feelings will you take away from here?

The people at ISB are what make it special. My memories with students on GCW trips, inside the classroom, or even just great conversations in passing remind me what an incredible bunch of humans we are helping grow at ISB.

What final thoughts or advice would you like to leave with the students of ISB as you depart?

I would say remember how very lucky we are. We have the opportunity and therefore the obligation to leave this place better than we found it. Remember my classroom rule: No negative self-talk: be kind to yourself and to others. Remember that you have to change to grow and change is scary.

We wish Mrs. Shaffer all the best as she continues her journey and we hope that she continues to stay in touch with us!
