Long Talk: Mr. Davy

What is your position at ISB and how many years have you been here?
This is my ninth year at ISB. My current position is a High School Counselor. In High School, we have two different types of Counselors under the Counselling team. A High School Counselor which is a personal and social counselor and a College Counselor that really focuses on the university application support. So, I have been in this position as a High School counselor 3-4 years, and before that, I was the ninth-graders’ counselor. So, I think for 3 years I looked after all of the ninth graders’ transition from middle school to high school. I took care of all ninth graders’ that have come through. Before that, for two years in ISB, I was the middle school counselor. So, I have had three different positions at ISB.
What is the next destination in your life?
It is going to be Switzerland. I am going to be working at another ISB – International School Basel. It is very close to Germany, about a 15-minute drive to Germany and a 15-minute drive to France. It is very close to the German and French borders. I am going to be an HS counselor there as well.
Why did you decide to go there?
Good question! A number of reasons. First of all, I wanted to have a new experience for myself and my family and I wanted to grow professionally. It’s always good to try different places. Also, to be just a little bit closer to my family which is in the UK. It is only an hour’s flight to see my mum and dad. Also, my girls when they moved here were only 2 and 4 so Thailand is all that they have known. It’s been a wonderful experience but it would be good to give them a different experience now.
Looking back on your time at ISB, what memories and feelings will you take away from here?
Most of them are very fun memories of living in Bangkok, Thailand, and working at ISB. I have very fun memories for many different reasons. Students over the years have been fantastic and very bright, kind, worldly, and always very respectful. Also, Thai people and culture are always very welcoming to me, individually. That’s been super positive.
What final thoughts or advice would you like to leave with the students of ISB as you depart?
I think ISB is an exceptional school, it is a wonderful facility and has great teachers and students. Many students have lots of opportunities. While you are at ISB you see different activities. Make the most of the opportunities afforded you. I guess the last thing I say is this. Remember to be kind to each other and kind to yourself. Do not be so hard on yourself!
