Pre-IASAS Girls Basketball 2018

Pre-IASAS+Girls+Basketball+2018

As the second season comes to an  end, both the school and the team are getting ready for the biggest event of the season –  IASAS. Last year the girls placed fourth at ISM; this year, the tournament will be held at our home turf, ISB, from February 1st to February 3rd.

Coach Miller feels that they will be “very competitive this year”, and that playing on home turf will be very advantageous for the team. Finishing at fourth place last year, the team is ready to come back this year and get a medal. Coach Miller says that the team has improved a lot from last year, with more practice and also having games in the local league. “We will continue to grow each time we step on the court, and we will continue to grow until the last buzzer of IASAS,” Coach Miller stated.

The team’s main strength this year is that they are “a fast team”. Coach Miller mentions that the team has been working on keeping their fast play under control, and that they can “beat up teams up and down the court in transition.” The team still has some areas to focus on, such as improving  the execution at the offensive end, but they feel confident about IASAS either way.

We will continue to grow each time we step on the court, and we will continue to grow until the last buzzer of IASAS

— Coach Miller

Coach Miller says that the senior captains, Naisha Gandhi, Gabbie Fong, and Mackenzie Smith have been an important part in the success of the team. The captains are all very good leaders with  IASAS experience and are a big part in uplifting the spirits of the team when they need help.

The team has shed sweat and tears to get up to the point they are now, and are headed towards their final event together as a team. Coach Miller says that the girls know each other better, play more as a team, and support each other better, compared to the start of the season. “It takes some time for a team to ‘click’. We are a totally different team than we were in October.”
