Race To The Finish Line: Boys Cross Country IASAS

Race+To+The+Finish+Line%3A+Boys+Cross+Country+IASAS

Months of strenuous training had led up to IASAS. The Boys’ cross country team had their eyes set on gold since the start of training. Cross Country IASAS at Taipei ended in a tie between SAS and ISB, with SAS winning the tiebreaker and winning the gold medal, while ISB had to settle for silver.

This year’s Boys’ Cross Country team was one of the strongest teams in recent memory. The team placed 8 out of the top 10 runners at BISAC and were the favorites entering IASAS. The
Boys’ were confident in their chances of attaining gold.

Coach Bentley summarized the team’s performance at Taipei by stating “The boys did not fair as well on the humid and very hilly course as we had hope and were edged out by SAS over this 5km course. We still had three runner claim “All IASAS” distinctions with a 3rd place finish from Rohit Pal, 5th James Pratt and William Condra in an unprecedented finishing kick picked off 4 runners over the last 100m to grab 7th. On the second day of competition with seven inspiring runs from team ISB it was our turn to edge out SAS for first in the 3km team time trial. This put us in a tie with SAS for gold but unfortunately, for us, the tiebreaker goes to the school with the higher finish in the 5km race, this caused us to settle for Silver.”

Senior captain James Pratt completed his last Cross Country run at ISB, yet is proud of the team’s performance and how the team developed throughout the year “I remind the guys of how at the beginning of the season no one expected anything of us, and how that makes all we’ve achieved even more special. As athletes every single runner on this team has improved remarkably which makes me so proud as a captain.”

Despite the tough loss, the Boys’ have a chance to return with a Gold Medal next year, with only one runner leaving ISB. Congratulations to the Boys’ Cross Country team for their hard work all year and their silver medal. Go Panthers!
