Game Recap – U13/U15 Boys Basketball

On Monday, 5 September, two basketball games took place at ISB. Our U13 and U15 boys opened their seasons with two feisty games versus against NIST.

The beginning of the each game proved difficult for ISB, with NIST’s U13 boys leading (6-9) after the first quarter while the Falcon’s U15 team jumped out to a 10-4 lead.

The second quarter was quite different. The U13 Panthers rebelled to score eleven consecutive points. Across court, the U15 Panthers reduced the gap to close within 5 points at halftime.

In the third quarter, ISB’s U13 team maintained their significant advantage (19-12) whereas the U15 boys came back to 18-21, promising a heated last quarter!

In the last quarter, NIST’s U13 squad made an incredible comeback, but it was not enough to jeopardize ISB’s victory (23-22). ISB could not double down on the victory however, as the U15 team couldn’t catch up to their opponents, eventually losing 23-26.

The two games were both well played and very tight, and it came down to the team that that made the fewest errors and put the ball in the hoop at the end.

After the game and despite two different results, the two coaches relayed the fact that it was the first game so they will work and train to improve their team. Coach Armitage was thinking that the key of the game was the energy of each player as well as the team’s defense. The fact that he used all of his players was crucial. He finished by saying confidently, “We will get better in everything because it is early in the season.”

For Coach Hunter this defeat is encouraging, but he linked a lack of communication and experience to the loss. Coach is still satisfied with his players however, even though they lost the game: “They definitely played hard. Considering the time they’ve had on the floor, it looks good for a first game”.
