IASAS Golf Recap

IASAS+Golf+Recap

The girls’ and the boys’ Varsity golf team have worked hard all season to prepare for ISB’s most anticipated sports event: IASAS. This year, IASAS golf took place in Jakarta. The first day of the tournament began on Thursday, the 7th of April. Both teams showed grit, determination, and put up a great fight against the IASAS rival teams.

Unfortunately, the boys did not have a good start since they had to play a golf course that they were not familiar with. The team had a total score of 381, 56 strokes more than the first-day leader, TAS, placing them in fifth place after the first day. The boys did fine and fought hard on the second day since they experienced rainy weather conditions. The team had a total score of 334 on the second day making their overall score 692 and are still fifth in the rank going into the match play.

The match play took place the following day. ISB was in the fifth and sixth place match play going against ISKL. The team did well beating ISKL three out of five matches. This meant the boys finished in fifth place overall. When asked about the results, the boys’ coach Kevin Callahan replied that he was “pretty happy with the results. Everyone was very competitive and everyone did their best.”

The girls did well on the first day playing in an unfamiliar golf course. The team had a total score of 401, 30 strokes more than the leading team, TAS, placing them in third place on the first day. The girls also suffered the adverse weather conditions on the second day. The team ended the day with a total score of 405 making their overall score 806. This dropped them down to fourth place in the ranking going into the match play.

Unfortunately, the girls did not do well in the match play, losing five out of six matches. This placed the girls in fourth overall. When asked about how the results, girls’ coach Monte Major replied, “I think the team could have done better if we had more practice time. However, I am still happy with how the team played. Even though some players did not play that well but they still fight all the way through the tournament.”

Both teams tried their best and put in everything into the tournament. The teams made the Panthers proud and happy – not simply because of the results but because of how much effort and commitment they put into the tournament.
