Equality between genders

Equality+between+genders

According to ‘The Fast Company’, women around the world earn 10-30% less than that of what a man earns, even if they are working the same job. According to ‘Parliament UK’, the there are 458 men working in the House of Commons, however there are only 191 women as of 2015.

No one person is better than another, whether they are of different gender, race, religion or beliefs. It’s time to move on from the ‘traditional’ thinking, time to move on from what the past taught us, the gender stereotypes that were forced upon us then and now. Men can be feminine, women can be masculine, men can like men, women can like women; there are no limitations to what us humans can do. We need to stop being so narrow-minded, stop being so cynical and start believing.

The first step to worldwide equality is equality between genders.

Chloe Duval (10) gave her opinion as to why there is an issue with gender equality, she stated that “in our world today there are a lot of differences between how women are paid and how women receive education, and that in comparison to what men receive in a lot of the parts of the world is unequal.”

Paola Lindo (11) said that a benefit of having gender equality for females is their “representation in media and having roles which give them more power politically per sé.” she also carried on to say that a benefit for men is that “the males have to be the protectors or the macho guys, but if you get rid of that you will allow them to show their emotions.”

Shafim Alam (11) stated that he believed gender equality links in with the LGBT community. He said, “the LGBT community has the same discriminatory factors as women do.”

Emily Hansen (10) declared that a solution to the gender equality issue would be to “educate people on the word feminism.”

There are numerous reasons to be a feminist, but when faced with the question ‘are there any reasons to not be a feminist’, what logical answer could there be?

That men are better? That equality is irrelevant to making the world a better place?

This is what Chloe had to say: “I think the only reason you would be against feminism is if you do not understand it or if it is the way you were brought up.”

Michael Cunningham once said, “I was not ladylike, nor was I manly. I was something else altogether. There were so many different ways to be beautiful.”

Take this quote however you want. Perceive it in the way your mind wants to, but take it as a fact. No matter what gender role, what stereotype is demanded by you, you should, can and will be whoever you want to be. Fight against gender roles, fight against the stereotypes. Be yourself.

As Buzzfeed tells us all, “you do you.”
